Thuja plicata, commonly known as the Western Red Cedar, is a large evergreen conifer that is native to western North America. It is a long-lived tree that can grow up to 70 meters (230 feet) tall in the wild, although it is often much smaller in cultivation.
Thuja plicata has a conical to columnar shape with drooping branches that form a graceful silhouette. The foliage is scale-like and fragrant, with a yellow-green to dark green color. The bark is reddish-brown and fibrous, and it peels off in long, thin strips.
This species is a popular choice for ornamental plantings, windbreaks, and screening due to its attractive foliage, fast growth, and tolerance for a wide range of soil types and growing conditions
