Alpinia zerumbet 'Upright Shell', also known as shell ginger, is a tropical perennial plant that belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It is native to East Asia, but is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in many parts of the world.
The plant grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet and has a spreading habit. It produces narrow, lance-shaped leaves that are about 1 to 2 feet long and have a glossy green color. The most distinctive feature of the plant is its showy flowers, which emerge from cone-shaped clusters that resemble seashells. The flowers are white with yellow and red markings, and are fragrant.
